Having been largely forgotten, the Western Sahara conflict appeared to be heating up again in early 2012 when the German multinational, Siemens, landed an order for the construction and maintenance of 22 windmills to be built on a wind farm in Moroccan-occupied Western Sahara. The Western Sahara conflict has lasted more than 40 years now but has yet to see a definitive solution. However, the situation in this part of the world sporadically attracts the attention of the international community.
